If there is one thing I am just smitten with, it is tradition. I love carrying on old traditions and creating new ones. A particular tradition we started during our first year of marriage was apple picking every fall. We are incredibly fond of this yearly Hill adventure to the top of the mountain to pluck beautiful fall apples from their apple-laden branches. We sip cider, munch on cider donuts, admire the pumpkins, then spend time shopping and lunching in Charlottesville. Just typing about it makes me so very giddy for fall and this year's apple picking trip.
So it should come as no surprise, that we also wanted a similar tradition in the spring/summer. Strawberry picking became that thing for us. This year, we were sad to miss it, and you can read why here. But we bounced back when we discovered the Chiles Peach Orchard, where we could not only pick peaches, but strawberries too. Husband has been wanting to pick peaches for years....since we made homemade peach jam as our wedding favor (here's a super throwback for you)...and this was a dream come true.
Sunday morning what HOT. But, we didn't let it keep us from finding peaches ripe for the picking. I was happy to find that the orchard provided wagons for little ones, and this turned out to be a huge blessing as we meandered our way through the peach groves and strawberry rows. Greer can't get enough of her wagon at home, so she was quite tickled to enjoy a wagon ride at the orchard. More exciting than the wagon was the concept of pulling peaches off of trees. Can you just imagine?! The joy was tangible.
Meet my new favorite summer cold-shoulder shirt. This light-weight floral shirt has been perfection for the hot summer days, and I love the shoulder detail and fluttery sleeves! Thanks to PinkBlush for sending this shirt my way! It does not disappoint!
Those eyelashes get me every. single. time. My Grandmom was in love with baby girl's lashes and let me know each time she saw me. So now, whenever I find myself admiring Greer's lashes, I think of Grandmom. Even though she's gone, she has left me with a sweet little reminder of a very special lady that I'll carrying with me always.
We took a break in between peach and strawberry picking to give us all a chance to cool off. Greer munched on snacks and water while her daddy fanned her, and husband and I enjoyed peach cider slushies. They were heaven-sent, friends.
I thought these little traditions were simply wonderful when it was just husband and I. I loved imaging how special they would be with our littles. And it has exceeded all of my expectations. There are no words to describe the sentiment I feel about doing life and traditions with our child. Nothing compares.
After collecting our share of fresh peaches and strawberries, we stopped for lunch and then made our way home. We gobbled up the strawberries within 24 hours. And the peaches have been enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I'll be making my peach slab pie with the remaining peaches, and y'all, I can't wait!
