The spring weather showed its sun-shining-face on Saturday, perfect timing for a weekend outing with family. In the morning, husband and I swung by Starbucks for breakfast because that's the best start to any weekend, Am I right? Then we loaded up with the other Hills for a simple trip to a town about 40 minutes away. If you're a local, pay attention; I've got some stores to share with you!
I've heard about Schoolhouse Fabrics for months, and on this particular Saturday I finally made my way there. This fabric store is an old school building filled with fabrics on every floor (there are three levels). That's a lot of fabric, people! When they say "come on in and spend the day," they're not kidding. I'm thinking we were in there for a little over an hour, and we could have stayed longer!
I was on a mission to find fabric for pillow covers. My family room is in the middle of an update, and I am a firm believers that pillows can make all the difference in a space. So I browsed hard to find the perfect fabric for some bright and fun covers. I found it, and I think I'm going back at some point during the week to grab some more. Because like I've said before, you can never have too many accent pillows.
After all my searching, I found what I wanted, and here are two of my choices. How fun are they?! These two fabrics paired together are going to give my family room the added flair I've been wanting!
Husband was thrilled that he didn't have to browse the fabrics with me. Instead he and his brother and our nephews explored the town, while my SIL took our time strolling through hoards of fabrics.
Shopping for the perfect fabrics makes a gal hungry! So to The Floyd County Store we went. And it was better than I imagined it would be.
Look at that happy boy! Do you think he's reaching out for Uncle Pete? If you said yes, you'd be right. Those two are the sweetest together and have he sweetest relationship. #unclepete
Seriously, don't you love the charm inside the store?! I was in love as soon as we passed through the front door. It's quaint and lovely.
So much candy! And just for the experience, I insisted that husband and I get a bag with an assortment of what they offered. It was totally worth it.
This is what I get when I say "smile," and really it's the cutest. I could just eat him up!
And this guy, well he's my absolute favorite. I can't get enough of him.
So not only was I in love with the store's atmosphere, but also with their food. It was amazing! I went with their vegetable and barley soup paired with the toasted turkey reuben sandwich. And an orange 'n cream soda only seemed fitting. But really, ya'll, this food far exceeded my expectations and is worth another (or ten) trip(s) back!
I told you I insisted that we get some candy. And after we finished lunch, that's exactly what we did. We picked out what we wanted to try and some old favorites.
One of my favorite perks of lunch (besides it being so darn delicious) was the live music. We were serenaded the entire time. Live music is my jam, especially when I can sit and enjoy it.
After we walked around the store browsing the trinkets and bought our candy, it was time to pack up and head home. We'll certainly be back. The sooner the better! If you're local, you definitely need to head to The Floyd Country Store and Schoolhouse Fabric. You're missing out until you have!
