Tabletop Décor

February 7, 2014

Husband and I love to build and we make quite the team (see here & here). I'm good at the creative side of it, the design and concept, while he's good at the construction and logistics.  Without the other we wouldn't get very far.  Every now and then one of us will have a piece of advice to give the other, but mostly we stick to what we're best at. A few weeks back I was majorly craving fresh flowers for the dining room table. But, mid-January doesn't really present much of a selection for the flowers I had in mind (ranunculus and peonies). And then I remember just how much I love succulents (see here). Knowing that I wanted a fun and quirky way to display them for the table, it dawned on me to present them in a simple rectangular box. We already had plenty of scrap wood stored away for an occasion such as this, and the concept quickly sprang to life. Some particular scraps contained old staples, perfect for the rustic look I wanted. So husband, taking the design I had detailed, went to work and produced the beautiful box you see below. Stunning, right?!

The succulents came next, and that was the best part for me. They're so beautiful and unique; picking out only five was the hard part. We took precaution when planting them, and lined the wooden box with plastic, so the soil and water wouldn't escape. They're thriving and the perfect addition to our dining room table. If you're looking for a colorful and cost-friendly way to spruce up a space in your house, I say try putting something like this together!

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!
